AI4PEN Moves from Pilot to Expansion,Rotary Club of Yala takes AI Literacy to Prithvi Narayan School, Tarkeshwor Municipality, Kathmandu

Kathmandu, 17 September 2026 — What began as a pilot initiative to introduce Artificial Intelligence into public-school education has now taken its next step, as the AI4PEN – Artificial Intelligence for Public Education in Nepal initiative of the Rotary Club of Yala, in collaboration with Danson Solutions, has expanded to a second public school.
The journey began on 21 August 2026 at Kitini Secondary School, Godawari, Lalitpur, where the AI Literacy Teachers Training Programme was formally inaugurated. The initiative was launched with the aim of equipping public-school teachers with practical knowledge and skills in Artificial Intelligence and helping them use AI effectively, responsibly and creatively in teaching and learning.
The pilot programme brought together 25 teachers for a 40-hour structured training programme over 10 weeks, with sessions conducted every Sunday. The training focuses on practical applications of AI in education, including lesson planning, development of teaching and learning materials, productivity tools, responsible and safe use of AI, and understanding the opportunities and challenges created by AI. The training is now running on 5th week.
The launch at Kitini was part of the Rotary Club of Yala's broader engagement in education and technology. The Club has already implemented the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) programme in 30 schools and is supporting Robotics Education at Kitini Secondary School, reflecting its continuing focus on innovation and strengthening educational opportunities.
A New Chapter at Prithvi Narayan School
Building on the experience of the Kitini pilot, AI4PEN has now entered its next phase.
On 17 September 2026, teacher training formally began at Prithvi Narayan School, Tarkeshwor Municipality, Kathmandu, making it the second public school to come under the AI4PEN initiative.
The programme began at 3:30 PM with an address by Principal Mr. Narayan Sharma, who welcomed the initiative and highlighted the importance of preparing teachers and students for a rapidly changing digital environment.
Rtn. Basanta Raj Shrestha, Coordinator of AI4PEN, spoke about the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in education and explained how the initiative evolved from its initial concept into a practical programme for public schools. He emphasized the need for teachers to understand emerging technologies and adapt teaching practices to remain relevant to the needs of the new generation.
Mr. Bishal Chhetri of Danson Solutions presented the overall AI4PEN programme, its objectives and implementation approach. He also reaffirmed Danson Solutions' commitment to supporting schools and teachers in the practical adoption of AI in education.
The programme featured a session by Mr. Sunil Kumar Gharti on the importance of AI in education, integrating AI into the curriculum, and adapting teaching methodologies to meet the changing learning environment and expectations of today's generation.
The opening session at Prithvi Narayan School was attended by teachers, Rotarians and AI trainers. The programme concluded at 5:00 PM, marking the beginning of a new phase of AI-focused teacher development.
